Amen! People also pick & choose what they want. It's good u correctly said that the entire chapter should b read 2 get the whole picture.
A pastor jokingly pointed out what can happen when Bible bits & pieces are used. For example, "Someone (randomly) opened a Bible page that stated, 'Judas hanged himself.'; the same person (randomly) opened another page that stated, '...go & do likewise...' ". See what can happen? (Smile.)
I admit to not reading The Bible as often as I should.
Happy Sabbath.

Yes, and you are correct that many people just pick and choose a verse as they see fit to try to make a point. Reading the Bible is great but it's just as important to study the Bible. One approach, that I have heard from a number of different sources, is if you're reading a verse you need to read the chapter to get a better understanding of the context. Next you should read the book of the Bible that the verse is found in to understand even more. Finally, if you read the entire Bible it solidifies how it all ties together. When you do that you'll have a solid grasp on the true meaning of the verse.
Its often helpful to also read historical texts (such as Josephus) and commentaries, especially those that go back to the original wording (Greek) for added information. When the Bible is translated into any language it loses some of its finer points. It's also worth noting that over the years the meanings of some words have changed. What is written in the Bible often takes on a different meaning when our modern interpretations and understanding of some words comes into play.

The reason for this is not that the book is so wonderfully written!
It sells because churches buy tons of copies to beat people over the head with it!
You want proof that your bible is a worthless piece of crap? Ok here you go.
Let's look at Romans 7:7 I had not known sin, but by the law
Really no knowledge of sin but by the law. That didn't stop God from killing!
Genesis 6:7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.
First of all why punish the beasts, creeping thing, or fowls if all God was pissed at was man? Does God need anger management?
Secondly there was no law for anyone to know that what they were doing was wrong.
Another example of God's judgement without law Genesis 18: 32 And he said, Oh let not the LORD be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten's sake.
NEWS FLASH: Without a law by which to establish what actions are good and what are evil then there is no way to accurately judge anyone!
Then we have the question which are people judged by works or faith. It really depends on who you ask. The deciples taught you are judged by works. Where as Paul taught works do not matter it is all faith. Here is the proof!
James 2:24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.
Romans 3:28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
COME ON WHICH IS IT! MAKE UP YOUR MIND! BUT OH YES THE BIBLE HAS NO FLAWS! BULL S*IT!

Amen, I agree. The reason why most people don't understand the Bible is the fact that they have never trusted in what the Lord Jesus did on the cross for them. Another reason why people don't understand the Bible is the fact that they don't study and the they don't rightly divide the Word of truth. The whole Bible is written for our learning but the whole Bible is not doctrien for us today. 2 Timothy 2: 7 Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things. 2 Timothy 2: 15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

I read the Bible, but not as often as I should. I do believe I would understand scriptures better if I took the time to read the whole chapter. Good question!

I've been seriously thinking about becoming a Christian. I have several friends that are "true" Christians. That is to say, they're for real. Granted I'm not with them 24 hours a day, I do see a vast difference in their values. Albeit, there are some hypocrites out here. I don't concern myself with the hypocrites. But yes, from time to time I do read the Bible and it has given me moments of clarity and peace. :)

I am Hebrew and no I do not read Torah/Bible.The reason I don't read Torah is that I already believe in God with all my soul. I don't see any point of reading it and practicing all the laws. The true connection with God is through your soul while realizing the difference between right and wrong.
I prefer a simple lifestyle though being religious is also not bad if your whole family practices it. In addition, I consider, to some degree, most religious people as extreme sinners and hypocrites since they interpret religion wrong way and use their religious believes as masks to cover their sins that still continue on a daily basis. Worst of all, those extreme sinners use their nonsense to teach other people in order to lead their lives their ways. For instance, those priests who were accused of child molestation, they read Bible every day but still molest innocent children while not confessing their own sins. Then, when people go to church to confess, those priests give them hypocritical advices saying that molestation is a sin. Duh, do you follow it yourself? What's up with that? Or Rabbis who teach young couples in public in Synagogues on how to behave themselves in bed during sexual intercourse while turning one against each other in case if one refuses to follow Rabbi's teachings. They read Torah every day. Those terrorist leaders who turn innocent people into terrorists while promising perfect life in Heaven and a financial support for their families, consider themselves religious people who read Koran everyday. What's up with that?
Basically, anybody can read the Holy Book and understand it but following or realizing the difference between right and wrong (Teachings of God, Jesus, and Allah one of the ways to realize the difference) is another thing. Most people fail to do that though it doesn't take a religious person to realize that difference while benefiting yourself and society as a whole.
