Federal student loans are not credit based. Therefore, it won't matter if you worked for 50 years or only a week. When you complete a FAFSA application to apply for Federal Financial Aid you will also want to check with the school you will be attending to see if there may be any other steps that you will need to take to apply for the aid. Generally aid may consist of loans or even possibly grants. Be prepared. Keep track of all documents you sign. Apply for any aid is a process (so it won't happen over night), but as long as you apply early you should have a decision as to how much you may qualify for before classes begin. Don't worry. If you are getting a late start, you can still apply for the aid (as long as you are within the deadline dates), but you may need to put some type of payment down to secure your classes until your aid is fully processed. Check with the school to see if they may offer some type of payment deferral plan.

Go to the financial aid office at your school and apply for financial aid. Sounds like you might qualify for a grant and a loan.

There are many sources on the web for student loans, just type it in and search, but check your sources. Also, banks can help too. Open a line of credit or checking account and establish yourself. Show yourself financially responsible and you'll get the help you need.
