By getting on of those kiddie potty things that fit in the toilet and put the litter in there until the cat is comfortable with it, then putting saran wrap over the toilet with a small amount of litter in it.

I know this one!!! Ive done this before..

Okay, what you do, is start by moving the litter pan next to the bathroom, just outside (if its not in the bathroom already). Do this for a week.
Then move it next to the toilet, inside the bathroom, for a week.
Then put the litter pan on top of the toilet for a week.
Next, you will want to buy a small turkey broiler pan, that will fit inside the toilet. just hang it on the seat, and fill it with litter. Do that for another week.
Next, you might use some heavy duty aluminum foil, and cut a very small hole in the very middle of the pan (maybe 2 inches wide). Use the heavy foil to keep the litter from falling into the toilet, OR just lighten up on the amount of litter and grin and bear it. Do this for a week.
Kee expanding the hole, little by little, and give your cat a week to get used to it. Finally, you should have just the bare rim of the broiler pan showing, and you can just remove it.
Presto! You have a potty trained CAT!

Oh and dont bother teaching a cat to flush, either. Theyre too jumpy for that, anyways. And dont buy that store bought crap. What a waste of money.

Good job! Good LUCK!

You can buy a kit which at first covers the entire hole, and get kitty to use it by putting a small amount of litter in it, which he has already 'used' and thus has his smell on it. You then make a hole in the center of the contraption, and gradually make that hole larger, bit by bit, until you don't need to use it at all, and kitty sits on the edge of the toilet and just uses it as a person would.

I tried this out once with two cats, but found it not to be a good idea. Since I had to leave the toilet lid up 24/7, my cats both ended up drinking out of the toilet while it was frequently unflushed and dirty--ugh! After the smaller cat fell in one time and had to go for quite a swim before I rescued her, I decided this was just plain silly, and rather dangerous.

Another problem is, trying to teach kitties how and when, to flush. You can hang a toy by a string from the flush handle; however, mine never quite caught the concept of playing with the toy to 'flush' after they used the toilet! They only played with the flusher when they wanted a bit of fun, and then, did it over and over again. That wasn't great, for my water bill, or my nerves.

It may look like a cute stunt, getting a cat to use the toilet, but in reality I found it to be a foolish waste of time, patience, water, etc. Not to mention, either kitty could have become very ill, from ingesting water with defecation or urine in it.

This is done slowely and through a long training process, depending on the intelegence of the cat. You start by putting litter in a box, then build up the box with bowls so the cat gets used to the heighth. That's how far I got when I decided not to do this 2 of my masters got the idea, one started going beside the box. After you reach a certain height you reduce the size of the bowls (I used spagetti strainers from the dollar store) then put the bowls in the toilet, they get the idea, after a short time you pull the bowls and walla cat in toilet.

If you also want a good way to shampoo your cat it's a good tool. Put shampoo in the toilet water, grab the cat, put in toilet, flush twice while sitting on lid, when you raise the lid a whirling derbish fly's out of the bowl and get dried off by shear wind velocity. Walla clean cat......(if you actually do this you are really dumber than dirt) Mike, Medford, Ore.

You can train a cat to use the toilet. They make a tray that fits on your toilet that you start them off with litter and then the middle comes out and then you remove it entirely. You may find it easier to clean a litter box in the long run, my friend had more of a mess on her toilet then scooping a few times a day. Good luck though!!

I know how you can train without having to buy anything. First just put the litter box in the bathroom so it can get used to it them maybe after.................2 days put closer and closer to the toilet them put on top. Leave it there for about a week then take it away and supervise your cat until he nows what to do and not try to and cover it's dirt up since you he can't because it's in water. If your patient your cat will probably be using the toilet in no time.

You put the cat's litter box on the toilet.Make sure the cat knows it's there. Then you put a piece of cardboard on the toilet. The cardboard will have litter on it. Take away the cat's litter box. Soon the cat will start going on the cardboard.Get a new piece of cardboard. Make a small hole in it. Reduce the litter. Keep on doing this until there's a huge hole in the cardboard. Then take away the cardboard. The cat will start going in the toilet. My cat can do it. Good luck!

The promb i have with that is sharing a toilet with a cat i think you can open yourself to all kinds of cat diseases unless you have more than 1 toilet/bathroom and give 1 to the cat only

I wish I knew a way because I am a cat lover in a family of cat haters! However, I have trained a few to go outside. You know, go stand and sit starring at the door, then at you, then at the door, until you let them out. Like a dog, only instead of going in the yard for you to discover on your shoe later, a cat will go away from it's domain. Anyway, use a liter box as usual, and place it by the back door at first. Then on the back porch. Then, after a few months, you can throw the nasty thing away. I hope this helps you.

I've been thinking of doing the same thing.. I think the easiest way is to buy this thing called CitiKitty. It's a litter box that fits into the toilet, and every week a ring is removed, revealing a small hole the first time, but over the weeks the hole gets bigger and bigger.. and also while using CitiKitty you are suppose to take away all of the other litterboxes.
