Generally between 6 months and a year of age.. some of it depends too on the breed of dog. Males tend to mature sexually before the females do. You have to watch your female closely for signs of going in heat to make sure they don't get bred by a roaming neighbor.

A lot depends on the dog, the breed, the environment, etc. I have shelties and I have had them come into heat as early as 6 months and as late as 2 years. The males are fertile from about 5-6 months on. You do not want to breed a female on first heat and until they have had all genetic testing done. I have shelties and that means OFA, VwD, thyroid, and CERF.

Female dogs normally get fertile like in their early one and a half to two years
