i feel hooking up means getting emotionally involved...rather than plain physical intimacy,after all emotions hook you to someone no matter what might be the physical or geographic distance between you and him

"Hooking up" is too vague a term to be given a general definition. Anything in between kissing and having sex can be considered hooking up. Simply going on a date is definitely not considered hooking up.
