Can a automobile factory default recall expire?

98 ford explorer timing chain guide has broken and the recall date passed 3 months ago , Three years ago the ford dealer we bought it from checked it and said it was not broken and they could not repair it unless it was broken. We do not drive this car much, 1,600 miles three years

Appeal to the zone or district manager. They have the authority to override those decisions and often do.

If It's a government mandated recall for safety or emmisions reasons, it's good for the life of the car... recalls that aren't really recalls but are actually customer satisfaction callbacks such as the chain guide expires after a certain amount of time as determined by Ford. But if you can prove the vechicle never really moved for 3 years and it being that close to the end of the program, call Ford ans ask to speak with someone like a district rep who can help. If not contact the dealer you bought it from or you visited last time and see if they can direct your question to the right people

Only emission and safety recalls have a life time, things like the engine, suspension, body, that are a concern recall Ford has the right to limit time and mileage, I know that sucks, but Ford has a number to call give them the VIN # and it opens what Ford calls a MORRIS II that will show up at any Ford dealer, Talk to the service manger not a service writer and be nice, most of the time Ford will pay 80 percent of the repair and you will have to pay the 20 percent, which is a pretty good deal if its out of warranty and recall limits.
