My son (who is now eight) LOVED Primo and Duplo (large Lego), he would sort them into colours and would stack and build for hours. These days it's Lego all the way!

Anything that encourages imaginitive play is great, when he was two I bought him a second hand kitchen with dishes and such and he spent hours cooking for me :)

He loved Fisher Price Little People and animals, books, cars, trucks, etc.

He never went for the toys that required batteries, the ones that light up, make noise and drive us all batty.

Well I havent found that one toy that was so amazing that they want only to play with it. But my sand box gets the most usage out of everything. Its really great because it can fit on our patio. Its a little messy but so much fun to get down and dirty. Aside from that my sons have short attention span and all the toys they own are soon thrown aside. Dont spend money on toys. Sporty things like soccor balls and foam bats and balls are great. Hope you find something. Good luck.

Cars, Balls, Jumbo Lego's, Washable Crayons, even the special markers that only write on the special paper. My son loved his Lego's and still builds Bionicle's now that he is 10.

Stuffed animals are good, trucks and cars. Toys phones and tools. Old keyboards are good when they get a little older.

A nice wooden train. there is one made by a company called Melissa and Doug. It is hand made, affordable (maybe $25 canadian), colourful and has stacking blocks on it as well. VERY great gift.
