Anytime I leave the house he goes nuts and barks and wines as if in pain. Also he barks and bites at the garage door, windshield wipers, vacuum cleaner, broom, ceiling fan or practically anything that moves. What is wrong with him and what should I do?

Is this a new thing or is this a rescue dog? Sometimes with rescues, we do not happened before and have to work with that. If it is a new behavior, I would need to know if anything has changed recently. I also would need to know the situation around where she is kept, how long she is left, etc. It can be cured and it is not unusual and it DOES NOT make you a bad pet mom. E-mail me from my website and I will try to give you a hand. www.summerlandhillsshelties.com

my wirehaired terrier/mini schnuazer/dauschund mix had the same problem. what u can do is start by taking ur dog to a room, and shutting urself out of that room, leaving him alone. u stand behind that door, and wait til he stops barking for you. the second he stops barking, open the door and praise him like he's the best doggie in the world (which i'm sure he is). gradually increase the time btwn him stopping barking and u praising him, so that he loses the mental connection btwn u going out and him barking for u to come back in. in his mind, he's thinking if he just barks long and loud enough, he can 'make' u reappear. also, don't pay any special attn to him for about 30 mins b4 u leave, or after u get home. this will help him nomralize u coming and going as not being permenent. this will take a week or so, but it *does* work. i got it from a positive reinforcement dog trainer friend of mine.

if all else fails, u can ask ur vet to put ur dog on a mild depressent, but this is a last resort. good luck!!

well, he is still considered a puppy I think. Dogs are dogs and they do that. Call your vet or training center, they may have some good ideas on how to calm him down. Also if you go to an all natural holistic pet store you can find drops that ease stress and they do work. You might find other good stuff while you are there.
