can t people be more original

It's not a matter of being original. People throughout history have imitated the upper classes to gain status; dress like the rich, talk like the rich, listen to rich people's music, people think you are rich. (I think the recent development in the West of imitating the lower classes, rich kids posing as thugs, designer clothes imitating thrift store buys, etc. is a fairly new development) So, the West is the "upper class" of the world, and people imitate it for the same reasons.
There are a lot of counter movements however, for people to retain their own traditions.
