We chose private school. Here are the big reasons why:
They do a better job at teaching academic skills which prepares students for college. They do a better job teaching kids to get along while maintaining discipline and order. Private schools are better at preventing drug and alcohol use. They keep kids motivated about learning. They have better tools and materials for learning like excellent books and well maintained campuses. The biggest reason I like private schools are because the class size is smaller than public. My son has 16 kids in his class. I like that there is more support from other parents. In public schools, there are alot of parents that don't care. In general, I think private schools offer a more personalized, customized education. The kids get higher scores on standardized tests and college entrance exams which means a big percentage go on to college. Also, the teachers that work in private schools always talk positive about their principal and their school's management unlike public schools. Research shows that they score higher in reading, math, science and foreign language than public students.
I think that teachers are constantly "babysitting" the brats because the class size is huge and bad students are accepted. In private schools, if a student acts up or does wrong, they take care of it immediately and will expel. I think teachers have more say in private schools which makes them happy. I think you can't go wrong when the safety and individualized attention is #1 for your children. I would pay the extra money for that any day. I would never choose public schools. I went to one and there was alot of crime, drugs and dropouts. The teachers were terrible and I missed out.

My children went to private while I was married. I was happy with most aspects of it. They were more strict and tool less bs from the kids. My boys stayed well behaved and didn't' bring too many bad habits home. After I divorced, I switched to public because of the money situation. I was very upset that I had to do this and felt like I was doing something bad for my children. It turned out that I chose a school that was relatively small and similar to private school. I am very happy with the decision........the only drawback is that they HAVE started bringing home a few bad habits and bad language. But at the same time, it's a little more of a taste of the real world......it just makes my job a bit harder. I think the key here is parents HAVE to be as involved as they can. I joined the PTA, am now it's vice pres and this helps me know what's going on in my child's education. Stay involved. Every school, no matter public or private will have several outstanding qualities and several drawbacks. Choose the school that has the things that YOUR child needs. If I could have afforded it, they would have stayed in private.......but whatever the case, there will always be loopholes in their education. But it's our job as parents to fill those in.

I home school.
Having worked with public school kids for the past 17 years in before and after care, and seeing the traumatizing effects of standardized testing, bullies, peer pressure, boredom, overcrowding, underfunding, etc; I just decided that I could do better for my child.
People worry about socialization, but that is a joke as my son is surrounded by children in the before and after care program, and because we are a part of a large organization that gathers on a regular basis (no, not church. I won't go into why that one is) that has members ranging from 0-100 years old. I would hope that every homeschooling family would do the same. I know that they don't though, which is why so many people worry about these kids being socialized.

It really depends coz i don't think anyone here could answer your question so well. But hope this would hep a bit. In my place there are good public and private schools and of course there are so many schools too with low standard of education. If you are rich and could afford to send your kids to a good private/exclusive school with high standard of education then enroll your kids there. But if you are on a tight budget then to a public school only but a good school. Also consider which is more accessible, which school produces more successful students, or if it is fully recognized by the Education Department, ask from fellow parents, too. You have experienced both so you decide... it really depends on the quality of education in your place or country.

I do not have any children, but when I do, they will attend public school, because I believe that they can recieve a quality education in the public sector. It is the job of the parent to ensure that the child is getting the education that they will need to compete in the world

My children started out in private school as they also had daycare there and I didn't have to separate them. After my divorce I switched them to public school as I couldn't afford the tuition any more on my own. I am glad I did, though, because I remarried a few years later and moved to an area that has wonderful public schools so they were already accustomed to the difference.

My child attends private school. In my city, the public school system is over crowded & under funded. My child does better in smaller class settings & would not get the attention that he needs if he attended public. Also, race is a factor, although, it shouldn't be...it is.

My kids are in public school. The only other school in our town is a catholic school. My step-daughter attended a catholic school all her school life and I didn't like the things that she was taught, so my children will be in public school. If there were a different school available I might consider sending them to it, but I sub-teach and volunteer in their school. I feel that I know what's going on within the school. I am really lucky to be able to be there and help out, not just my kids, but all the kids

well i send my kids to a public school. My reasons might be differnt to others but here it goes
1) they r more expensive and if u can afford it then its fine
2) i find kids from private schools to be snobs (at least the ones i have seen)
3) i have neices in private school and my kids in public and the education is not that different
4) i want my kids to learn how normal ppl in this world behave and not ppl with money.

Public school! Our public school system has gifted & talented curriculums for the educationally advanced students. Our private schools do not.
My cousin is a teacher - she said that she can easily point out the private school kids, as they aren't as advanced in learning. Private schools put a lot of emphasis of learning of the bible, but don't keep themselves up to par with the public school systems anymore.
At least, in my area. You might want to check out your own system. I do not live in a big city, it's a smaller town so that also makes a difference.
