Before you try kerosene (that could be dangerous for the child) try this. My middle boy (7) got lice from school and the RID took care of it, but not before he gave it to his older brother. I could not get rid of the lice on my oldest son (maybe having longer hair had something to do with it) Finally I called the dr and asked for perscription lice shampoo. She said get a shower cap. Slather his head with mayonaise, put the shower cap on and make him wear it for a couple of hours. In the meantime wash all bedding. It worked (I don't know why and really don't care lol) but we have not had any lice since. Thank God! I never got it but I could just "feel" my head itching!

Please, don't use chemicals on your head, they seep into the skin and into your circulation. The BEST treatment is to use a heavy oil, like olive oil or even mayonaise, slather on thick and then put on a shower cap or swimming cap and go to bed. In the morning shampoo and then using a very fine tooth comb go through every strand of hair to remove the nits (tiny little eggs) It's easier to have someone else do this for you. You must remove everyone and they're tough little buggers! Wash all bed linens and clothes that you've worn in hot water then HOT dryer setting.

Try apple cider vinegar. Soak the entire head in the vinegar, wait about 30 minutes. shampoo it out, use a small amount of any cream rinse to make the hair soft. Then use a nit comb to comb out the nits. Repeat again in about 5 days....
If you want to use a store bought remover, I think NIX is better than RID.

I remember seeing my neighbour do this when we were young....his mother poured kerosene on his head covering all his hair to kill all head lice. Make sure you do not have a fire nearby!

have a bulb cut. Remove all your hair and let it grow to have a new hair. And take care of your new hair by shampooing on it everyday.
