No, it is not the "safe way." If one is a "Christian" like that, they are not Christian. it is by faith, not guess work. God is active in our lives, not a dead god. He is God. So, I do not think as you have asked. I live by faith and enjoy every moment of my God-graced life.

The rhetorical nature of your question is duly noted. Still, the fact that you post it here opens up the reasonable possibility of a response.
I've heard Christians use this line of thinking before. I believe the most influential version of it in the modern era would be "Pascal's Wager." While it makes sense on a certain level, it also falls short of accomplishing what the other eveidences for Christianity's claims accomplish.
Since I was raised in a Christian home, I was taught God's existence, attributes, and actions a priori. Other conclusions followed these inherited presuppositions, and these conclusions seemed to match the reality I observed around me. Still, when I got away from home and went to college I decided to doubt everything I'd learned to test it and see what (of my inherited beliefs) was true and what was not. I unsuccessfully challenged Aquinas' proofs for the existence of God. I unsuccessfully tried to make Darwin's system explain the physical world around me. I unsuccessfully tried to explain away the complete and immediate life change people experienced when they totally gave up everything else and put their faith in Jesus. In the end I concluded most of what I'd inherited.
There are "stupid and lazy" Christians just like there are "stupid and lazy" non-Christians. While I began my faith journey by inheriting doctrine, eventually I questioned everything, researched extensively, and based my conclusions on my reasearch.
Do you think ALL Christians are stupid and lazy? Am I stupid and lazy even though I've gone through all this to find the truth?

Nobody knows the answer to this question. My guess is there is no answer, because asking the question "how" presumes a cause and effect sequence existing in time. Time is a dimension. But scientists tell us that under String theory there are 11 dimensions. If there are dimensions beyond time, asking "how" everything came to be is non-sensical. Morever, our brains being limited in their dimensional capacities probably cannot comprehend the answer to any ultimate question - presuming their is one. It is not a question of being too stupid to understand the answer - there simply may not be an answer or an answer that anyone can comprehend (short of God).

Someday people will realize that if they really are so religious they would not be playing on Yahoo Answers but out volunteering their time at Rape Crisis Centers or helping the single mother with a newborn baby to clean her house next door. Religion has one HUGE drawback: It allows you to sit back and wait for god to do the hard work.

Ive spent years pondering the complexity's of these issues and wont stop till I'm secure in the knowledge that the world knows there is only one creator , whatever religion suits you its just a path to the same source.Gives you hope makes you want to be a better human being. go for it.

Well that's kind of how I've always seen it. God of the gaps, that's what it's a good example of (the creation story that is) then they have a religion that doubt is punishable but bad things aren't (for example, atheists go to hell, but if you accept Jesus and kill and rape a thousand young girls, heaven awaits!)

no, we don't think like that. those who are truly christians don't be with god to play it safe, we be with Him for support because He is truly our Maker. We know in our minds that he is true and that He made the earth. no, we don't want to go to hell, but that's not the only reason why we praise and love our God. hopefully you change your way of thinking, but until you do, good luck with life.,

Someone mentioned in another question that we have free will. With free will, you can think how we like. Don't feel guilty -- we are, after all, only human! We have our weaknesses, but as long as our strengths are also there, then we can do a great deal. Don't worry, you are not alone!
