Also, check NAIC annual statement database and National Underwriter Insurance Data Services / Highline Data.
Also, The insurance company analyst AM Best provides reviews of the financial strength of insurance companies. They will have all the current assets undermanagement and the rankings for the top 25 U.S. life insurance companies.

Go to AM BEST> The previous poster was correct. BUT, then look them up on your own state's insurance department web site. Here in PA we can look up all licensed companies, and get the consumer information on each one. Just because a company is an A++ carrier, doesn't always mean their customers are happy with them. Check everything out before you buy.

AM Best Rates companies based on policyholders surplus, and finacial size along with other criteria. If your looking for the biggest insurance companies in the world, then you are probably going to be looking at re-insurance companies. These are the carriers that insure the insurance companies.

A.M.Best rates insurance companies. I'm not sure if the ratings are available on the internet. However, they would be available at your local library.
