.rar is a type of compression like zip but is relatively recent. However, only a few software make use of it (some games such as CoD 2) and even its decompressor such as winRAR is not as prolificly availabe as compared 2 winzip. Also, its much more difficult 2 get ur hands on dis thing!! U need 2 BUY it!! If ur needs r only temp, i suggest u use the trial(demo) version dat u may find from da web or try some P2P netwrks like kazaa. or u cud even get it from certain comp mag's free cd/dvd.

You have Windows XP?...Right click the file and "OPEN WITH..." Then Use the Web To Find The program that loads .RAR extension (WinRAR, And ALZIP) Are two that will extract the .RAR extension archive file format. Have Fun!

A win .rar file is a compressed file it works on a similar concept as winzip only that its compression rate is higher . Win Rar 's outstanding performance can be seen in its encryption of compressed file as well as its ability to repair corrupted files .It works best on an ntfs platform not that it wouldnt on a fat32 .
