I'm an atheist and used to look forward to (okay, maybe not *look forward*...) to their visits until I realised that any argument I presented was answered with a quote from scripture - no debate, just 'this is what the bible says'. Now I don't try to engage them, I just tell them that I'm atheist, that it gives me great strength much as their belief does and I close the door.
I was caught by a couple of women when I was heavily pregnant and not in the best mood - I was a bit snippy and they stayed outside my house for close to 10 minutes praying.....

A few persons persist in spreading such ridiculous stories about Jehovah's Witnesses. The Witnesses do not try to force their religion on anyone; that would neither fulfill their commission nor be practical. In many countries, that would be illegal!
Instead, Jehovah's Witnesses hope to share with their neighbors an encouraging thought from the bible. Since they try to visit each home in their territories at least twice each year, it would not make sense for them to waste time with a householder who communicates a clear disinterest in conversing. There is no need to be rude or threatening. Simply thank the Witness for his good intentions, tell him you are not interested in speaking with Jehovah's Witnesses, and close the door gently.
Jehovah's Witnesses are used to it, and actually appreciate the opportunity to move on in the manner Jesus described:
(Matthew 10:14) [Jesus said] Wherever anyone does not take you in or listen to your words, on going out of that house or that city shake the dust off your feet

Jehovahs Witnesses give up their own time and energy in obedience to Jesus' command found at Mat.28:19,20,where he told his disciples to "go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations,.....teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded you...."
I too belonged to a church(Catholic) but thankfully I did stop and listen to them.I am so grateful to Jehovah for that.I learned Bible truths and not man made doctrines like the churches teach.I now know God's name;I now know why there is so much suffering and wickedness in the world;I now know what God's plan is for mankind and the earth;I now know what happens when we die and the list goes on and on.
You have nothing to run and hide from.If you have a spiritual interest and desire to know the truth found in God's word, you would do very well to speak to them and listen to what they have to say.Unlike the priests and pastors,Jehovah's Witnesses use God's word as the standard for all their beliefs and not their own thoughts and ideas.
If you sincerely feel you are not interested, that is fine also. They are not there to force anything onto you.Their love of neighbor and love of God and Bible truth compels them to preach with zeal.Tell them how you feel honestly.
Jehovah's Witnesses are also helping fulfill prophecy.
Mat.24:14 states - "This good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth, for a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come."
So based on their knowledge and love for people, realising that the end is drawing ever closer, they want to reach as many people as possible before the end comes. You have nothing to lose by listening to them and everything to gain.

Tell them you have a close relative who is a Jehovah's Witness (sister, brother, aunt, whatever). They will go away happy and not come back 'cause they'll think someone is already trying to save you. This really does work! I've used it countless times (with different Witnesses who have come to my door or stopped me on the street). Telling them you're not interested only make them wnat to save you more!

answer the door naked, now theres a real ignorent answer, why treat them any different than any other religion?there sent out to spread the word of god,and whats happening in this sick poor excuse of a world that goverments let happen to our countrys and people.you run and hide for a feww reasons, 1,your scared of what other people may think of you for allowing them in, 2. your scared they may tell the truth about alot of stuff, and the truth scares you,3if you did sit and listen to what they have to say, and ask questions about things you find wrong with the world they will answer anything you want and prove it with the scriptures. theres is so much crime, and desaster among everybody, yet its limited with there religion, think about it, if you really care about your life and your family, and belive in god, give it a chance to listen, what can it hurt, an hour of your life,it could make a difference, im not saying change religions, but you might learn something that you didnt now before, like there great people to

First of all, realize that this is how everyone feels when anybody tries to push their religion. Secondly, the jehovah wittnesses base their religion on a bible verse that refers to "144,000 witnesses". Which is who they claim to be. However, there are more than 144,000 jehovah wittnesses. Ask them why this is. Their church's official response is that there are imposters among the jehovah wittnesses. When they tell you this, point to one of them and say "I think you're an imposter!" and slam the door.

I have a sign on my door that says no solicitors. When such people come to my door, point to the sign, say "bye-bye" and gently close the door - all with a courteous smile.
If this does not work - I tell them the truth. I am not interested.
BTW: I am an atheist, so perhaps this makes being frank with people a bit easier.

Release the Hounds.
Seriously, answer and tell them NOT to return, that you are not interested and that you will not tolerate their uninvited visits. If that doesn't work, start making fun of their clothes and hair. See if you can make them cry. Tell them you have a nice big freezer, plenty of trash bags, and a bone saw. Invite them in for a closer look.

I'm sure they are used to people hiding from them...but if that makes you feel to rude, just politely but firmly tell them you have a church and you see no reason to discuss it further...and wish them a good afternoon/morning/whatever, and shut the door. Then lock it. And maybe latch it.
