Ice chips.
Chap stick for the lips.
Don't use mouth wash with alcohol in it (alcohol dries out further)
Oral hygiene (brush your teeth 2-3 times per day) helps to keep mouth moist.
Frequent sips of water.

They should have told you about and offer to patients lemon glycerin swabs. I don't think they sell this in drug stores or not, maybe call a hospital or nursing home about this and maybe they'll let you either have some or buy some from them. They help with dry mouth and tongue. Good luck!!

I suggest my patients keep ice with them. It usually is readily available and cheap to suck on.
Ice is cooling and soothing.
