I have just discovered my grandmother was born there. Her mother was not married. I would like more details of the place if possible.

The Union House would be the Poor House or workhouse ... in other words, the equivalent of a Hostel for the Homeless or those on benefit.

A good many unmarried mothers went there (or were sent there) in order not to bring shame on their families or their employers. If your great grandmother was in service, she may well have been simply turned out when it was discovered she was pregnant. The Union House would be where young girls in that situation would have ended up.

Here is a description of workhouses in the Wycombe area (with a mention of Saunderton) http://users.ox.ac.uk/~peter/workhouse/Wycombe/Wycombe.shtml

The Centre for Buckinghamshire Studies http://www.buckscc.gov.uk/archives/index.stm may be able to give you further assistance.

Genealogy is an interesting pass time. Records are easy to come by if you have the right resources. I don't know what your religious background is but I am going to tell you about a church that has archived millions of records that would interest someone who is researching their own family. It is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Once a week they open up their genealogy libraries to the general public. They have an expert that will instruct you on how to do your research and it is all free. You don't have to be a member and this session is for general public. No strings attached. My mom did this and she found so much information about my family and I even went to investigate some of her findings and was so thrilled to do this. I found out that I have some pretty famous people related to me. As far as the location of the Union House, there are so many houses named the Union House all over the world. Could you place that house in an exact city, state or country? You could also request birth and death certificates that will provide you with the city location. The more information you can provide the better your findings will be. Have fun with this.
