Hygiene for us guys isn't as big of an issue as for girls. Any funky smells your encountering are more related to you needing A shower and not because you are growing pubic hair.
Do I think it's weird to shave? Yes I do, if you go to the gym and take a shower you might be looked upon as a fairy. If you never go to the gym though your probably going to be ok. Just don't tell anybody about it.

No, it's not weird! I have a friend who does it. He likes the clean, soft feeling it gives him. In fact, he shaves the whole pubic area!

I had an ex who did something similar. His regrowth was prickly and hurt me. So i didn't care for it, each to their own though.
