The company I had the account with was taken over by another company. I have sent numerous requests to be reimbursed the overpayment, with no results other than more monthly statements. Can make no connection to a live person by phone and there is no automated option for reimbursement. Its easy enough to throw the statements in the garbage each month, but it is costing this company more than 2X what they owe me, just to tell me each month that they owe me. It's just an insult to any good business mind.

If you've paid the bill, and they are not responding to you then you can simply write 'Return To Sender' on every piece of mail you get to them. They are responsible for the return postage, USPS will bill them and they will take notice.

I had the same thing happen to me. I had a $3 credit at a store in a city I no longer lived in. I kept getting a statement from them each month reporting the credit. I called and told them just to send me the $3 and they said company policy would not allow them to do this. They said I needed to come to their store and buy something for $3 to get rid of the credit. I wasn't going to drive 100 miles for a lousy $3! I just let them keep sending me the statement ( it went on for almost three years) and someone there must have realized how much they had spent on postage and they sent me a check for $3. Ain't life amusing?

Yup, sounds ridiculous. I'm just guessing, but perhaps they were bought out because the whole company is full of bureaucratic foul-ups like that and they were drowning in it. Maybe the new company is slowly digging through all the mess and they haven't gotten time to get to your problem yet.

It does sound incredibly stupid, but you've done your part to try to correct it. Just let it be, and hopefully they'll get to the bottom of it soon enough. Perhaps you can find a 17 cent stick of gum to purchase on your account sometime and get it all over with. :)

I agree -- this is frustratingly stupid. But you should just shred the statements and forget about it. Eventually, they'll stop.

Why bother?

Never try to teach a pig to sing. You waste your time, and it annoys the pig.
