dont let him know that you already knew about it...so it can be special for him too. this is a pretty serious thing and it does take a certain amount of confidence and courage to say those three words...

Your friend is a tard and he lied to you. Men don't want to say they love you because it is very embarrasing if the other person won't say it back to them. However once it is said it becomes old hat very fast and becomes more of a courtesy than a statement. He needs to be able to say it without fear or doubt and the way you describe it he is acting like a little girl and not a man. Dump this loser.

Men are all about setting up a moment, I say just let it be and don't act at all. He'll tell you when he's ready, obviously it's on his mind so cut him some slack.
