We all need to accept that no one is going to voluntarily give up their nuclear weapos as long as someone else has them. We should either set a good example and get rid of ours (UK) before we can dictate to other countries like iran and north korea. If we don't want to give up ours then we cannot tell others to stop making theirs.

A fine idea, of course then the EU would have to invade Pakistan, India, China, North Korea and pretty soon Iran, just to keep things fair. The debate regarding WMD' s is simply about not allowing them to be held by states that pose a direct threat to the stability of their region or who are likely to allow them into the hands of terrorist organisations. Into that category fall both Iran and North Korea, and therefore they should be at the top of your list, not the US. Your question simply illustrates your reactionary and rather naive view of global affairs.

good question. a lot of people seem to think we are different because we are responsible / civilized / more understanding. will that always be the case though? 50 years ago would an american believe the country would adopt a pre-emptive war strategy like we used in Iraq? who is to say what our leadership will be like in another 50 years. America will not always be the nation it is today, all nations rise and then fall in time when that does happen our nuclear arsenal is going to be a very big problem for the rest of the world.

Your question illustrates your understanding of the geopolitical struggle for worldwide resources that nation states play. For too long the USA has claimed a patent on the role of 'global policeman' and it is encouraging to see that people now recognise the hypocrisy of this claim.
