i have 2 dogs, both girls. one is a 2 1/2 yr old wire haired terrier/daucshund/mini schnauzer mix, and the other is a 4 month old peikenese/wire haired terrier/english springer spaniel mix. the 4 month old is already way bigger than her 2 yr old companion, and she knows it. she can fit the smaller dog's head in her mouth, hence the problem. she doesn't try n bite hard, but every time we let them in the house, she does it, even if they were outside together. is she trying to display dominance, and is there any way to stop her from doing it? my older dog is getting sores from where she's been biting her.

The little one is still a puppy and the biting will pass and it will pass very shortly so do not worry about it. They are not real intentional bites but puppy bites and the older dog should have, by now, snapped back just enough to train the little one to stop it.. I would not worry about it.. It is normal and will subside and eventually pass

yes she is establishing a dominence thing. I would say watch it carefully but do not interfere to much unless you see obvious aggression signs. It really is up to your older dog to put her in her place and if she does not then it means that she is not a alpha female and there for regardless of her age the younger one will be the dominent one over her. I have a Pit and a chihuahua and for the longest time the little dog established that she is the boss, my Pitt was ok with this for most of his life but recently he has been indicating that he is not wanting to be the beta anymore. He is not trying to hurt her but he has been indicating with body language that she is pushing it. I am not allowing him to dominate though, I feed the little dog first, I pet her first and any attention is directed to her first as this is how it would be were they in a dog pack, which in a way they are, since I am the pack leader he is learning that his role is not changing and the pack leader is not allowing him to change. You have to treat a dog like a dog, treat them like they live in a pack because even though there may be only one dog in the family your family is a pack to the dog, this is how they understand things, when you treat a dog like a person you run into problems, they do not understand human language or body language, hence many times this causes people to get attacked or bit because they have ignored body language that indicated the dog thought of himself as a alpha.
I hope this makes sense,
good luck

I got a 2nd pit bull when my other dogs (pit and a cocker spaniel) were 1 1/2. The puppy would do that to the cocker but we stopped it immediately. Now that the puppy is 1 and much bigger then the cocker, the puppy doesn't do anything like this w/the cocker. They play nicely.

Give you pup some toys of her own. Maybe this will stop her from biting the older dog. Maybe she is just trying to play. Dog need to be leader of the pack, so she is showing dominance and wants to be the leader. This is a natural instinct for dog.

the 4 month old is just a baby and doesn`t know she is biting too hard.i would let the older dog handle it.she will snap at her and teach her that she must respect her elders in a way that will be better then you trying to teach her.if you yell at her or pull them apart,it really olny teachs the puppy that you are boss, not that the older dog is too.we have two boxers here, one is 12 next month and one is three next month.they play all the time and sometimes it sounds like they are really going at it but because the older one taught the younger one respect,it never gets out-of-hand.dogs really do have a laugage and they will understand it.

I know this may sound weird, but spray the older dog with bitter apple spray. (but read the instructions so you know where on the dog you can spray it)You can also spray bitter apple spray on all kinds of things your dog is biting, house plants, his collar, even electrical wires. That stuff will leave the worst taste in your dogs mouth. You can find it at department stores in the pet section or at a pet store.

My friends dogs do it all the time but it has never lead to sores. Next time your puppy does it scold it and separate the dogs. Soon the puppy will realize it is not OK. Then it will not become a life long habit.

You can't, your older dog has to play bite them hard enough or enough times, for the puppy to learn the lesson. But the older dog doesn't seem to mind, so...

that is the same with my dogs. it is playing as well as displaying domince. i would say to just pull them appart and scold your four month old. after a while she will hopefully stop. good luck
