I can live with chatspeak, although I don't use it. It has certain consistencies that make it a valid language, and I can certainly see its advantages for text messaging, which I know is important to many people. What I can't stand is people who absolutely mangle the language or who can't be bothered to check their spelling. It's one thing to use "u" as an abbreviation for "you", but to spell in "yuo" and not bother to correct your error is sheer laziness.

Speaking of mangling the language, I just saw a question "Can you give me a fiend from abroad?" What the heck does THAT mean?

Yes, I do hate it, esp. when it's a stupid question.
That's an interesting article. The problem is the English language was shaped that way, meaning the sound and the written form are different. It's more like French, but there's a pattern in both languages that people should learn, so they know when to say "there" and "their." I guess people are just lazy to look up the dictionary or to learn more about their own language. To sum up, the English language is a mixture of French and German. French is in the sound, German is in the grammar. How strange! Whoever started it was never a genius. He was just a lazy bum!

Hate is a pretty strong emotion to get from reading.
I don't hate much of anything.
I am amused by the ignorance some people display to the world and get angry when you tell them to use spell check.
They insist that it doesn't matter.
(sometimes it doesn't matter. Even if they spell all the words right it still doesn't make sense.)
They are fools. Let them live.
I need a good laugh once in a while.

you know, the whole idea of this simplified spelling reminds me of another attempt to "dumb" the english language down and that was ebonics . why do so many have to make concessions to the lack of motivation by a few. i am a product of the public school system and i don't recall learning to spell as all that difficult. i find it silly and just another indication of the laziness and lack of integrity in our society today.

I found that article kind of hard to read; I'd prefer the old-fashioned way of spelling
