Will has that right. Tips. But it is a good job, if you are a people person, it's the job for you. It would be a satisfying job, bringing good food and drink, and getting a smile from the customer. I think the grouchy customers are in the minority, I go to lots of restaurants, and I rarely see a grouch. My friend goes with me a lot, and she is VERY picky, but she is never rude, she just asks for what she has coming with the meal, and what the waiter agreed he/she could do.And she is very polite when she gets it, smiles and says thankyou and tips big. Yes, you have to carry potentialy heavy trays, and yes, you walk a lot, but are not those things healthy for a person? If you work in a upscale place, on the evening shift, you can really make a lot of tips. My other friend put herself through nursing school being a bartender, and she said the tips were great. I asked her about the obnoxious drunks, she said it didn"t happen, and if it would have, there was someone on hand to take care of it. She is considering leaving nursing and going back to the bar.
I watched at a small restaurant, located inside a veteran's organization. This was at lunch. The waitress got $10 bucks off the 3 tables I saw, there was money on 2 more, but I could not see how much. If she got ten bucks off the remaining tables, plus he salary for the hour, she made almost as much as I do as a nurse for that hour, and as I said, small place.
Down side would be a lack of benifits, but at almost $30 bucks an hour, buy your own health insurance. Put a smile on your face, if the customer doesn't get the meal that was expected, make it right by them. Treat single peaple as well as you treat large groups of people[single people tip just as well as people in a large group, if not better]. Treat a group of women the same as you would treat a group of men. You will get customers who return and ask for you. Management is happy, the customer is happy, and you will be happier, with fat tips in your pocket.
