One of my cats will play fetch (his name is Steve). My friends and I call him a catdog. His favorite items to play fetch with are milk rings and q-tips. He will play anywhere in the house, but his favorite place to play is on my bed. He likes for me to throw the items up high in the air, but off of the bed. He then does kitty acrobatics to catch them in mid air! If he doesnt catch them in mid air he will bring them back to me to try it again. He has done back flips and everything else trying to catch those darn things.

Yes, my cat Pippi plays fetch.
Our cats always loved their toys being thrown for them to chase. Then, on her own, Pippi started bringing it back.
Over time, she has got much better at it - and is now very good at returning it directly to our feet. She'll bring her little mouse toy to us when she wants to play, drop it at our feet, and rub against our legs to get our attention.
She'll play for a good while before she gets tired of it and doesn't bring it back anymore. I think the most fetches in a row were around 20.

Our middle cat Sheba loves to play crinkle ball catch. As soon as we crinkle any paper, she's right there looking up at us. She started doing this when she was a kitten, and it hasnt stopped. The older cat couldnt be bothered, he just watches.

One night my kitty dropped a little ball of tinfoil into my hand while I was sleeping. She never did that before. I threw it just to get rid of it. She kept bringing it back. She taught herself I guess. Tried to teach the other cat but she didn't care. Go figure!

I had the same problem with my 2 cats. 1 cat had it first. So we treated her. Then the male got it. It just kept going back and forth for months. Finally the vet said to just treat both at the same time. It worked. Both cats were fine in about a week and a half. And it's never returned!!
