Did the construction features ofthe world trade center buildings contribute to their collapse?

I doubt that with the way they were hit, that anything would have prevented their demise...there simply is no way, whether engineering/architecture, etc. can be done to "save" bldgs. that tall from everything.
Actually, the way they "fell" was quite miraculous...they fell straight down instead of sideways, or exploding in a great outburst, which would have caused even more damages & deaths...gotta count the blessings, too.

I'm kinda thinking they would have withstood if it hadn't been for planes crashing into them....I could be wrong.
