The Marines. I'm former active duty Air Force & currently a reservist. Our heritage grew out of the Army Air Forces of World War II. We've had a pretty good history, but it's been a short one(since 1947). While the Army & Navy are the more senior branches, I think the Marines have had a more colorful history & heritage. Not to mention people such as Chesty Puller & Howlin' Smith add to it.
The Marines are a smaller branch of service & actually a corps of the Navy. Most people I know that are former or retired Marines always believe "Once a Marine, always a Marine".

I'm not sure what you mean by hardcore. I don't think anyone in the military would see themselves as 'hardcore.' We are a military family and we see ourselves as 'professional, well trained, well educated, dedicated, hard working (you have to be to put in endless 20 hour days, seven days a week), concerned, etc. But, hardcore is not one of the adjectives we would use.

Hardest? Marines slightly over the Army.
Dumbest? Marines by a country mile!
