I'm 15, We did some sex ed. the other day where there was a few plastic penis' and loada condoms going round the class for education purposes. at the end of the session we were free to take condoms if we wished. But doesn't this encourage underage sex maybe. Because condoms are being handed out obviously not pregnancy increase I said that to get more answerers. what do you think?

I think that when adults tell teens that underage sex is just one of those things that they can't avoid so here's something to help you avoid the consequences that it sends the wrong message and teen pregnancies increase as a result.

What happens when a condom breaks or there isn't one available? What happens when teens get used to having sex and they want to see what it's like without using a condom because they hear that it feels a lot better? What about the teens who would benefit more from being told that the marriage union is a special commitment between two adults and the sex act should be a special celebration of that union that bonds the couple together and gives them a special intimacy that would be tarnished if there were others they had engaged in sex with before getting married?

As to the answer below me about studies showing pregnancies don't increase, I don't believe those studies are accurate because those studies don't look at the larger picture. Look back at history and you will see that starting in the 60's teen pregnancies began to rise. Sure, they didn't hand out condoms in schools back then, so that isn't the specific reason. The reason is that people turned away from the moral precepts contained in the Bible and along with women's liberation they turned the sex act into nothing more than a momentary agreement between two people. Handing out condoms is a perpetuation of that harmful belief system.

Unless the other day in sex ed was the first time you ever heard about sex.....
Of course it is the best thing to do. Ideally it would be wonderful to believe as fact that all kids would refrain until marriage. Come on.
I feel better knowing that my 15 nieces and nephews have an option to use condoms, I do not want to know when ect. just that it is available is slightly comforting.

whoever told you it prevents underage sex did not know what they were talkin about......

encouraging condom use will help get people in the habit of using condoms to help prevent STDs and reduce(not eliminate) the chances of pregnancy....
it is better to start the habit right off instead of waiting til the teen turns adult with bad habits...
Bottom line..........
It is better to hand out the condoms and risk the message come across as encouraging safe sex than to not introduce condoms and risk kids start having sex and not know what a condom is and how to use them.
make sense?

I think that kids are going to have sex whether you hand the condoms out or not. So, the condoms just prevent teenage pregnancy. In my book, this is a good thing!

Of all the things that can mess up a teens life, having a baby ranks near the top. Trust me I know. Most babies born in the U.S. are not planned. Sex education is very good. Do they put condom dispensers in high school bathrooms? They should.

EVERYTHING these days is an encourgement to have sex. Look at the movies, tv commercials, listen to the music. And of course you can't forget that as a teen, those hormones are raging for sex. Keep the condoms available I say.

Study after study after study, including several by respected Christian organizations, have shown that distributing condoms in middle school does NOT encourage underage sex and that they DO substantially reduce the rate of new cases of STDs and teen prenancies. Do not believe ANYONE who tells you otherwise, even your own pastor. If he objects, you send him to me and I'll see to it that he's accurately informed.

Handing them out may help prevent pregnancy and disease. I highly doubt it encourages anything. I think everyone will continue on with what ever life style they had before the class.
