You don't major in tutoring. You study a subject and become an "expert" in it (or at least know a little more than the next guy), then you can tutor someone who's studying that subject. To tutor means to give personal, one-on-one attention and guidance to another learner.

I'm guessing you mean a student tutor. You can't really major in that. I believe that the best way to do what you're talking about is to take some education classes. I'm a teacher (and a part-time tutor) and I have my teaching degree, but you can get a degree in whatever you want and then minor in education, or at least take a few courses on lesson plans, child development, assessments...etc.

One of the big problems you'll have with just being a tutor is that you'll need to have a wide and deep body of knowledge in order to make a living. Most students need help in middle / high school math and science. History and English aren't big money maker subjects.

While in college, you can be a tutor.

This is not, typically, a career choice, nor a choice for a major.

If "teaching" is what you want to do, then explore the Education Major options available to you.

Probably major in education. Then go from there.
