It is a well known fact that many of the major technological breakthroughs of the last century were made in times of war. We should be persuading smaller less developed countries to fight each other and buy their weapons, medication vehicles etc from British firms.

I think you mean, the American economy, which is the one that is geared to wars.
In fact, both America AND Britain are already doing their part to generate wars and political strife all around the planet with a view to selling the technology.

There were a great number of economic studies done after WWI and II and post Vietnam. All of them wanted to prove the point that war drove the growth cycle harder. It is politically unfortunate that none of them were able to prove it. A universal open market with little government interference in peacetime is the best (defined as most efficient in term of production) system.

That's already done. No one needs persuading. It would go on anyway, because it's a way for the rich to get richer, and have more power.

We already sell them!! Then we have them destroy them. When they are done with that we attack them. When the war is over, we start selling them weapons again!!
