If the farmer's are tough, it's because of the hard work it takes to bring you their wonderful bounty. I agree with those who say "don't bargain," bit also with those who recommend going toward the end of the day when the farmers are faced with carrying unsold stuff back home. However, I've found that if you patronize the same guys week after week and they get to know you, you may get a break. Also, buying in bulk may help.

Do they look like they are getting rich off of their customers? Give the farmers a break...they are some of the hardest working people in the world. If the guy wants $3.89 for organic lettuce - give it to him, with a big thank you and a smile!

Dress like a sexy farm girl in Daisy Dukes and smile a lot, that ought to distract them. Compliment them on their "farmer's tans", har har har. If they're that tough though, tell 'em that you'd like to do business with them, but so-and-so offered you a better deal, and see if they counteroffer.

first dress like a John Deere tractor and then start low...be prepared to walk and if you go later in the day the selection wont be as good but they don't want to take anything back.

Just ask them, what is the best price they can give you? If it is too much then go to another vendor. This is their livelyhood, you just have to respect it!

I grew up going to Canton, Tx's "FIRST MONDAY TRADES DAY"... I have always found that if you mind your P's and Q's, "yes sir", so on and so forth...you can get somewhere

You really shouldn't, they worked hard to bring you quality fruit and veggies. farming is hard work and the prices they give you is what they deserve.
