The catholic church tells its people they are supposed to "live humbly", while the priests have maids to do all the "menial housework" for them, and the higher-ups have servants, chauffer-driven limos, fly 1st class, stay at 5-star hotels, etc, all at the expense of those gullible enough to keep donating their money to the "non-profit" organization with billions in assets. They also keep telling the people to give more money to charities, yet don't seem to want to dip into their own funds to do the same. They talk about honesty and no sex before marriage, yet cover it up when a priest molests a little boy.
So why don't they want to practice the things they preach?

admiralbob77 - What about the pope and all his lackeys? I think they are higher up than any bishops, and I don't see the pope or any of them living humbly. No, I see top of the line all the way for them.

Debra M - the "less than 1%" you refer to only applies to the ones that have made the news. Not only is there the molestation, but there is also the physical and emotional abuse that goes on in the catholic schools, and a lot of it never gets reported. I know, because I went through that physical and emotional abuse from the nuns, and it was completely covered up.

A-MEN! I was raised a catholic and then I came to my senses. All the cover up is disgusting and a lot of what they preach is very hypocritical.
Had to also add.....the no sex before marriage and the no birth control at all....hmmmm now I know that rule is being broken by several catholics that want to talk about how devoted they are to their religion.

Ah, to the defense of the old faith! There is quite a pile of valuables collected over the years and it is equally true that some bad things have manifested in the Catholic Church, but there has been good as well. I'm comfortable with your sub text, but I don't find it balanced. I think it's easy to point out the wrongs in anything, however you should be aware that the church has provided relief and comfort for millions of people over centuries; as well as functioning as the government at different times in history and bankrolling the dawn of modern times in the Renaissance. It may be worth considering as well that should you seek the service of a professional you may be put off if they received you wearing rags, such would be the case if the members of the clergy were turned out so. The message has remained fairly consistent, it's the love; all the other stuff they've told us to do we've collectively ignored or out right rejected; at least I have and many Catholics I've spoken to feel the same way. The molestation issues are heinous I completely agree, if you could perhaps give thought to this; weeds should be pulled up and destroyed; don't burn the whole field of wheat to get rid of them. Thank you for having the courage to state your feelings, I hope you have the ability to reflect that there is balance to most things in life.

First of all many priests have unpaid housekeepers or employ widows for that job. Priests don't have housewives. They actually live a busy life. Unlike protestants we have Mass daily as well as prayers and other services. Most Catholic church offices are open from 9 to 5 Monday thru Friday and Father is available. He doesn't get a day off. I personally do not know of a wealthy priest. As for the molestations get a grip! Less than 1% of priests have ever been accused and many of those accusations come after the priests death when he can't speak of his innocence. There are as many or more ministers and teacher and even politicians who do these things. People like you and Satan seem to have it in for Catholics.

All of these grand things in cathedrals and churches are to remind us of the glory of God. By the way, a church has a tabranacle, which holds the Body and Blood of the Lord, therefore it is the house of God. Would you say that the White House is too elaborate, it is the house of the president? Would you say palaces are too elaborate, they are the residence of kings and queens? By the way, the priests that have molested children are few, and they do not represent the Catholic Church.

What the heck are you talking about?
I know for a fact that, for instance, the Cardinal Archbishop of Boston is an aescetic monk whose private life is spent in brown robes living in a small room. And he's as higher-uppest as it gets.
And the Pope? Have you in fact done any research before posting this question? He lives in an apartment too.
And "No longer Catholic?" Your post is not that of a catholic or ex-catholic. Nobody who has ever darkened the door of a catholic parish would ever pontificate such nonsense about "worshipping statues." It never happens, and if you had ever been catholic, you would be well aware of that.

The Holy Catholic Church is the church established by Jesus Christ Himself and He did warn us that we would be persecuted just as He himself was. I see so many posts out here bashing the Catholic church, its Holy priests. I have also seen many posts telling others "Judge not lest you be judged" and "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone", etc. You want to talk about practicing what you preach?????? I can see Satan is alive and well out here on YA and all I can say is "In the Most Holy Name of Jesus, I command you Satan...be gone". God Bless!

Disclaimer: I dont think much of catholism. Now my answer. The Catholic church is christianity mixed with paganism. Its is not pure. Nowhere in the bible does it mention anything about a Pope, Cardinals, Bishops, or any of the glorious splender they surround themselves with. Nowhere in the bible does it encourage the flock to mix with the state. Jesus said give God what is his, and Rome what belongs to Rome. Cathedrals guarded by gargoyles? Come on! It reaks of paganism.
In my opinion, the Catholic Church does not represent the Father, Son, or the Holy Spirit. It has been corrupted.

I agree with you 100%; the fact is there is no way to say,"let he that is without sin cast the first stone. That never works when the lives of little boys are ruined by the so-called fathers.
The Catholic Church is too rich to allow all the pedophiles to be caught. Never worry about stones; worry about choosing your own best answer, or the one with the stone will use eight e-mail addresses to take best answer, just like all the Catholics priests who steal innocence from the children.

As a former Catholic, I can attest to the fact that they are indeed hypocrites. Once I started to study the Bible, I realized that what the Bible says and what the Catholics do, are two very different things. "Do not worship false idols". The catholics worship every statute they have. "Do not call anyone Father but me" The catholics call their priests father. "Ask the heavenly father for forgiveness". The catholics ask their priest. There is no one closer to God. Not the pope, not the priest. God is right here, we can talk to him.

Catholic church is just an organisation of regular human beings formulating a perfect get-rich business plan to convince other regular human beings into attending their church and donating their hard earned salaries to support the lifestyle of the priests.
What can I say, it's ingenius! It's better than the achievement of Bill Gates. The difference is, people happily donate their salaries to make them rich. And nobody bitches about how much money they got to give, while everyone bitches about how expensive microsoft products are.
