Also, get more living under your belt.

I think what your teacher means is that you have to get an education and a job first so that you yourself don't become needy. The more you learn in terms of experience and education, the better equipped you'll be to advise others. You might want to think about studying to go into a helping profession (doctor, nurse, social work, teaching, etc.).
At this point, you might start by volunteering at a hospital or a woman's shelter or maybe in a peer setting where you talk to other teenagers who are on your level.
Helping others is not as easy as it sounds and you may have to grow a bit of "skin" because not everyone that you'll help will thank you. You will learn to differentiate between those who are genuinely in need and those who will simply take advantage of your good heart.
I think it's a great thing what you're doing. Best of luck :-)

That's an admirable ambition. There will always be a special place in this world for you as long as you want to help others. Your teacher is right, too, you do need to think about yourself. Here's how: By doing your best in school work and activities, by being an excellent friend to others, and by taking your part in responsibilities at home, you'll become a better person yourself. You'll be better equipped to help others. The more knowledge you acquire, the more things you learn to do, then the more you can give of yourself. You also need to think of yourself in terms of health. If you're good to yourself, healthwise, you'll be physically fit and sharp in mind and that will also give you an edge in contributing your time and skills to help others. One more thought (hope I'm not overwhelming you)... by taking the best care of yourself, you're setting an example for others - especially those you want to help. Advise is great, and example is even better! Best of luck in everything you do.

If helping others is your biggest goal, then consider a career that would help others, like a marriage counselor or therapist. That way you can help others while still making a living for yourself.
