soldiers = killers = evil
people who put down their weapons and refuse to kill other people, even if it's not the popular thing to do, or the thing the authorities want done are good, because they don't kill
your neice is a lot smarter than billions of men who have lived, and fought and died and killed, but will she stay so smart? What's perfectly obvious to a child, that it's wrong to kill, becomes less obvious as the child grows up, his mind corrupted with crazy ideas, like "it's ok to kill in a certain situation."
It's obvious to a child, but for some reason, a lot of men deceive themselves, and go around killing a lot of people, like women and children and good men who don't kill but do actual work that benefits society, while those killers tell themselves what they are doing is good and right and acceptable and honorable, when it's actually none of the above.
Of course soldiers aren't entirely to blame because the government and the religions and the other aspects of society (the educators and the press, etc, as well as uncles, fathers and grandfathers) go to such massive efforts to glorify and exalt soldiers, and their profession.
Well each man is ultimately responsible for his own actions, but I can empathise with soldiers who are brainwashed (from early childhood) into believing that murder is sometimes justified, not just by the military when they join it, but by their peers, their families, their schools and elders, and most of all by the rich, evil, heartless and greedy people who desire war for their own personal profit, and who couldn't care less about the well being or conscious of the soldiers who fight their wars.)

Universal Soldier Lyrics
by Donovan
He's five foot-two, and he's six feet-four,
He fights with missiles and with spears.
He's all of thirty-one, and he's only seventeen,
Been a soldier for a thousand years.
He'a a Catholic, a Hindu, an Atheist, a Jain,
A Buddhist and a Baptist and a Jew.
And he knows he shouldn't kill,
And he knows he always will,
Kill you for me my friend and me for you.
And he's fighting for Canada,
He's fighting for France,
He's fighting for the USA,
And he's fighting for the Russians,
And he's fighting for Japan,
And he thinks we'll put an end to war this way.
And he's fighting for Democracy,
He's fighting for the Reds,
He says it's for the peace of all.
He's the one who must decide,
Who's to live and who's to die,
And he never sees the writing on the wall.
But without him,
How would Hitler have condemned him at Dachau?
Without him Caesar would have stood alone,
He's the one who gives his body
As a weapon of the war,
And without him all this killing can't go on.
He's the Universal Soldier and he really is to blame,
His orders come from far away no more,
They come from here and there and you and me,
And brothers can't you see,
This is not the way we put the end to war.

That would be a wonderful world...but unfortunately not likely to happen. You should tell your niece that she is very smart and that would be a wonderful thing, but there are people in the world who do very bad things, and sometimes the good guys need to fight a war to stop them.

You have a beautiful niece there. If everyone loved and got along with each other, politician and leaders weren't greed, maybe there would be less war in the world.

About as likely as all the women in the world would agree to put down their clothes and make love to all the men and keep them from going to war.

Soldiers and terrorists -- different.
Terrorists and Politicians -- not so different. Both fight for political ideologies. Can not trust these guys for a cease-fire.

It might work for the soldiers but then you have terrorists and they are not the same. Also unfortunately there will be no peace until Christ returns. It will be quite the opposite until His return.

what happens if all the soldiers aren't on the same page - we need leadership from the top - better yet every human being lived by the golden rule wouldn't the results be the same or maybe even better

children are idealistic they see the simplest solution to big problems that we adults are trying to answer.
Hope your niece does not change.
We were once like her but we grow up so is our opinion in life
