I think you should let them that you got money from the insurance. it would be more honest to let them know! But you could also suggest to them that insurance only paid for treatment, not trips to the Vet and anxiety for your dog and yourself so suggest they give you £100 compensation that you will then give for PDSA, Dog Trust or your favourite dog charity.

I think it important that they gave you some money because then ... They moght think twice before allowing their dog to attack yours or any other for that matter. £100 is not too much but still enough to make them think of what their dog did.

I would also suggest to them that, and although you should have reported the attack, you didn't but will if there was any repeat. You see your dog'sOK so are you but imagine a child with a young pup on a lead, or an elderly person with a little dog as well? Jack Russels are brave little dogs some other might not have survived.

I hope your dog gets better soon! Best wishes to you both

It's possible that you had to pay an excess, your premium will almost certainly not be reduced by a 'no claims' discount and you might consider compensation for the emotional effects on you and your dog.

I think if the owner has offered to pay, then you are within your rights to accept something. What arrangement you come to in terms of compensation depends very much on your relationship and feelings about the owner of the Alsatian. I would not advise concealing the fact that you had some compensation from insurance already.

What did the insurance pay out for, JUST the medical bills?
I'd except the money for the stress value and to give your dog a treat. It will also make the Alsatian owner more careful in the future.

Hmm... I say take the money. I think the owner of the Alsatian should certainly pay for his dog's misdeeds. I'd say take the money and put it in a separate account in case the insurance company finds out - they may want a refund. You're certainly entitled to it for your dog's pain and suffering. And you didn't get paid for the gas (petrol) and time ferrying the dog to the vet, right?

I think that you should let the owner know about your insurance, but if there are any additional costs that insurance did not cover, maybe settle for that. The owner of the alsatian may want to give you something for compensation anyway, and I am sure he/she would appreciate your honesty, and you yourself would sleep better at night knowing you did the right thing.

any dog --- not " under control " is the legal responsibility of the owner --- and same applies to any " damages " caused by an uncontrolled dog
you are a real " dog lover " as your concern was [a] --- to make dog well --- and [b] you have pet insurance
i think the owner of the alsation [although negligent in control] --- is an honourable person --- as has accepted responsability --- maybe they fear a legal problem but i do not think this is why they offer costs--- is honour

do same --- and be HONOURABLE also

just say --- " my pet insurance has paid vet bill "
iff you wish to REPAY THEM ? is your choice

iff you wish to SAY SORRY to my dog --- in ANY WAY!!!

that also is YOUR CHOICE

i think you may be surprised ha ha

sincere wishes for your dogs recovery and well being

and best luck to you

regards

Accept the other dog owner taking responsibility, but return any additional funds to the insurance company. Keeping both would be insurance fraud.

I think you already know the answer. Along with the vet bill there may be other issues with you dog due to the attack. He may need other type of help. Take the money.

You might as well take the money. Your insurance premium will probably go up now that you've made a claim, so you can use the money to pay for your premium.

Do the right thing. 475 ain't enough to buy a house or a car, if you want to be dishonest, you should be for a sizable amount, not a couple of hunderd pounds.
