Couples tend to have pet names for each other like DEAR, DARLING, SWEETHEART, HONEY, LUV plus a million more. For some reason people have a problem with calling thier partner by thier given name. As long as your partner doesnt get upset by being called a different name then dont worry. An ex of mine called me by many different names, problem was she called every other of her male friends the same names.

I think dear and darling are totally different. Darling is sorta gay sounding. Here dear is more hetero sounding. Darling is more .. makes me think of somebody with a ring on each finger, older lady, likes to be in control, usually a girl says darling, may come with the hand extended in front of the body and flick of a wrist downward.

I like dear better. Don't care for the word darling.

I call my wife sweetheart or my love I don't know how many times a day..

Actually pet names have been around since the dark ages....Marco Polo used to call his sweetheart "Bingy"...historians suggest that that particular gentleman was Gay....or in the worse case scenario, bisexual.....so you do the math
