When the book was supposedly written by a celestial being, He didn't foresee the invention of refrigeration. Some people may have serious reactions to shell fish, so eat them in very small portions until you know if you're allergic or not. Don't eat road kill unless you know its fresh. Just don't waste anything because that is the greatest sin. Also very important is to share your bounty with others. Whenever two or more are gathered at the dinner table, God is there.

We are now in the Age of Grace because of the death and resurrection of Jesus. That means that we have full salvation through the blood of Jesus not the imperfect blood of animals.
The Old Covenant and sacrifices have been replaced by the New Covenant in Jesus and so Levitical laws do not apply, including those on diet. In fact the New Testament instruction related to diet is:
"You are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality. You will do well to avoid these things." Acts 15:29
This isn't a law in the sense of Levitical law but more like advice.
By the way, Peter's vision in Acts 10 has nothing to do with food but was showing him that he must accept Gentile believers in Jesus into the Church.

In my studies I have found that there was a list of forbidden foods. However, in the New Testament, Peter was sent a vision which told him that no foods were any longer unclean. God erased these from the menu. However, I believe that God wants us to be healthy and not abuse any food.

This would be in Leviticus, chapter 11. It outlines what animals are "clean" to eat and which are "unclean".

Examples include pork, shellfish and hare. There's a great list on Wikipedia.

Hello Friend;
Sure can help! But before we start you should know the prohibition was because of cooking practices that made the animal unclean to eat.
With today's means, there are no unclean animals.
The practices applied to certain people, and are not applicable any longer.

It really depends on the Judeo-Christian religion you're a member of, since their dietary restrictions will vary depending on their individual interpretations. Find a local religious official or authority of your particular sect and ask them. God probably won't send you to hell for eating bacon.
