We need to know how to disable the passenger-side airbag on a 2006 Chevy Uplander. We can see an off/on indicator on the dash, but it doesn't appear to be a control button. This is a rental car and did not come with an owner's manual.

It cannot be disabled except by the dealer and after you have signed papers (as the owner). The light on the dash simply lets you know if the airbag unit is activated for the passenger seat. It is not activated if there is no weight in the seat

If the passenger seat is occupied by a child or has an infant seat installed, the airbag should be disabled automatically and the light will come on. If the light is on, the airbag will NOT deploy. There should be a label on the sun visor that explains this.

There is no other way to disable the airbag on a rental vehicle.

That said, children and infant seats belong in the rear seats!
