i just wanna say to some of the people here with really intellegent answers, u have such a wide imagination,when u meet someone and u feel that he doesnt like u u get upset it doesnt mean ur not sure about urself mr its just an instinct islam is an identity a reason i live for i hate the idea of others hating me only because am a muslim it;s like racisism get it!!besides u need to go live n the real world my friend dont u see how bad reputation is causing muslims their lives daily? ps i laughed when i read ur answer its really meaningless.. its time u go search for faith real faith!!regardles of ur religion i respect all religions

Because a lot of people haven't seen that Muslims can be wonderful, caring people. We all tend to fear what we don't know and tend to base our opinions on our limited understanding (though it may be incorrect) on the little information we have. It just so happens that bin Laden is a very vocal, hence very famous Muslim. Because many Americans haven't been exposed to Islamic culture and because Americans are very afraid (due to the media hype), they fear Muslims. Just as many Americans used to fear Russians, Germans and anyone who they fear may take away their way of life.

Lack of education. After 9/11 in a small town in the U.S. there was a gas station owned by a Hindu who wore a turban a lot of people decided to boycott the gas station because they thought he was Muslim. Ignorance absolute shear ignorance.
