Yes, I'm afraid society judges our intelligence level by the diplomas we have - such a foolish way to judge intelligence because if you look at people who are highly educated these days - Bush/Blair they don't seem to have an ounce of common sense between them.
Let's be honest, if you drop out of school, you will find the competition hard for getting a well paid job, but if you are intelligent you will survive and enjoy your life.

Look half the people commenting didn't drop out of school and get a G.E.D nor do they probably know someone who has done so. **** most of the most successful people were high school drop outs. If you really want to consider dropping out i'd at least talk to a counselor about the possibilities in the future. Oh and as for the dying at 27 thing, if someone's really after you i'd look into getting police involved, just in case they were serious. You never know this day and age.

Are you so aloof of reality or what gives which makes you come up with such ridiculous questions? That's it, play into the trap of Uncle Scam: be nothing other than a menial worker breaking your *ss for minimum wage for the next forty years or so of your life after graduating (if even that, according to you) high school; and especially more so if belonging to a monirity group. Really, are you some kind of a new class of retarded people? Ah, the "rubbish" idiocy with which you opened this forum with, well, moron, how else would you have even known what the word means if not for school? This by no means is an academic question but rather inflamatory rhetoric! Believe me little girl, your ignorance -- with this Globalization crap currently going -- shall not be bliss, mark my words. Your uneducated persona will be left to do nothing else than work in fast food restaurants (until computerized robots take over) and then clean toilets when all else fails.

You can make it in life if you drop out.
The question is WHAT KIND OF LIFE. If you live in a large city just go downtown and LOOK how some of the poorest are making it. You could always have a couple of kids and go on welfare, that's making it.
To MAKE a life after dropping out, because your not interested in those high paying jobs All you have to do is cut out the luxury items like a dependable car, vacations , computers and video games, new clothes, a safe neighborhood to raise a family. After all I am sure you can get a minimum wage job at a fast food place, just keep practiceing this line
DO YOU WANT FRYS WITH THAT

Some will discount your ability to “make it in life” because of the social stigmas attached quitting high school. The “higher paying jobs” you mentioned is also a measure of social success. While I believe I am an independent thinker, I also believe that a lack of education is a huge disadvantage to future happiness. Completing ANYTHING, (especially against the odds) demonstrates tenacity (never giving up) and instills a sense of accomplishment. Quitting school now will greatly reduce your choices and freedom later in life. Fair? Maybe not. Reality? More than any “reality”TV show you will ever see. In 1973 I was miserable in high school. The teachers were out of touch and except for a few friends the kids were all losers. In retrospect I was the one that was out of touch and becoming a loser. Sounds familiar?

Because they do not know the type of person you are or the type of determination you have. The way society is set up the jobs that do not require a formal education are limited and low paying. This does not mean however that you can not go back and finish your education through a GED and then go on to making a career for yourself. Or that you cannot start your own business of some sort and be a success at what ever it may be with allot of work. You are in con troll of your destiny you decide weather you make it the hard or easy way. You are in con troll of your success or failures. Good Luck in which ever you choose.

Dropping out of school means you are losing the main requirement (a degree) of most high paying jobs. People think that way because this is reality in general. Although there are exceptions like Bill Gates who became successful, but you're chances of making it in life without a degree is slimmer.
Life is also affected by a number of factors (luck, relatives/family, friends/contacts, perseverance) which can give you a boost to be successful but people think dropping out of school is a prerequisite to being unsuccessful because a majority of people who earn less don't have a degree.

It's your life to screw up.
Don't come begging for government assistance, grants, and otherwise.
Generally, it's better to have a few more stones than needed and be a bit over-prepared for the giant ahead. Get it?

If you're independently wealthy, you don't need school if you know how to hang onto your money. If you want to be president, you don't need school, just an electorate as uneducated as you are. If you want to be an inventor, you need to know what has already been invented (hence school). If you want to contribute to human knowledge, you need school. If you want to be an engineer, you need school...If you'll be satisfied all your life digging ditches or washing dishes, you don't need school.

Yes, there are people who make a success of themselves with little education, but the numbers are so small, it is NOT, and I repeat NOT significant. The odds are all against you, if you don't have the proper education.
