Yes, basically it's when you reach primal survival mode. It's when the flight response is shut down and you just have do what ever is necessary to survive. Soldiers experience during bombings and firefights. One hiker springs to mind when he cut off his own hand to get out from being trapped by a boulder and hiked back for help. The rugby team that was trapped in the Andes and resorted to cannibalism to survive. And there are many more examples out there as well.

yes

when you have to accept the situation and face it.. as a cold shower on shoulders and you say to yourself: OK, I can die now.. but have to face it.. you kind of become in peace with God and death (I face a gun before!)

However you are wrong. Family always matter, if you are scared they don't matter, if you not scared you do whatever it takes to save them (unless you referring to your father waiting at the door when you come back home drunk and drugged, that is another matter. That is not fear, that is total disrespect and lost morals)

ps. remember one thing: bravery is overcoming a fear (being scared) and if in dangerous situation you don't feel fear at all to start with that is called stupidity.

So I assume, the feeling you referring to might be actually being BRAVE

Yes. Overcoming fear is beyond fear. I've been there and done that more than a few times, so I can tell you it can be done. Expect the unexpected.
