When the Bible states "fearing God", that's translated as respect towards Him. We should not be afraid of Him but regard Him as our celestial father whereupon we can rely our thoughts or even pain and praise Him for He is always there for us.

The whole business is preposterous. Virgin birth? Resurrection? Monotheism, yet Father, Son, and Holy Ghost? Crusades. Stonings. Warfare. Hate. Anthropomorphic notion of God? God interested in individual people on this extremely tiny planet in an endless and eternal universe? Exactly which planet does heaven exist on, and which is hell? Preachers yelling about hell and damnation to those foolish enough to listen to the abuse, while they themselves are hypocrites in their behavior. Attempts to impose their views on other people? Try Buddhism instead. No wars, no hate, a path to overcome suffering, an inspiration toward compassion for all.

I think a lot of people are not opposed to the kind of taxes someone else pays. They just want to shift as much of the burden as possible to someone else. That's why you have a regressive tax structure, with a lot of basic societal needs being paid for by property taxes. There is a legitimate issue about how our public money is spent. Not only is there a lot of waste and inefficiency, but there are entrenched interests of those who benefit, not to mention the overpopulation of government employees who have not only job security greater than people in the private sector, but also salaries higher than they could get in the private sector.

Do you actually believe that non-Christians are AFRAID of Jesus, or were you just trying to be provocative? I can understand someone being afraid of the punishment and damnation traditionally associated with the Church, but that has little or nothing to do with Jesus. As I understand it, he was a very loving and forgiving sort of person. But what is done in his name is quite another thing. That, it is easy to fear!

Your facts aren't scriptural. Humans teach that Jesus loves everyone, not the Bible. Jesus is giving everyone a chance at salvation today, but don't mistake that with Him loving everyone. When the judgment comes we will see why the Bible says "The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom". And "It is a terrifying thing to fall into the hands of a living God."

I love Jesus... I just don't like growing up with a mom who goes to church! She did and said some things to me growing up that made me not want to go to church anymore! I hate myself when I go to that church because my mother was very insulting to me when I went to that church. How can you claim to be a christian and say God is love when the next day you will call your own child a name for having a dress less than one inch above her knee? I have a question why aren't other christians more like Jesus?

Some who proclaim themselves to be Christians argue that God also did a lot of hating too.

I do not recommend the website, but it does list those parts of the bible where God is recorded as having hated someone.

I'm not afraid of Jesus. I just think he's a myth. Being afraid of Jesus, to me, would be the same as being afraid of Zeus...pointless.

Some of 'his' followers scare me though.

He died, then came back to life! He's a zombie!

Who wouldn't be afraid of him? How do I know he doesn't want to eat my brain?

no one is afraid of Jesus. i'm terrified by people who tell me he'll send me to hell for being how God created me. all Christ said as he died for ALL of us was too love and be good to each other. how come most christians can quote every chapter of verse (twisted and out of context) to support their hatred but always forget judge not lest thou shall be judged?
