This is a bit embarrassing to admit here but I’ve eaten dog once when I was in my early teens. See, I’m part Native American Indian and we have a ritual feast for when a boy reaches a certain age, it’s a sort of religious rite of passage into manhood. Anyway, we have many various dishes (Turtle heart soup, Corn Venison Chowder and this Stew that’s chiefly comprised of…well…dog).

I remember my reaction when I first heard of what it was made of came after I asked for a second helping. I kept asking “Whose dog was it” and the elder medicine man kept repeating “Shut up! Shut up!”

Much as I was appalled at what I had eaten, I must admit that it was actually surprisingly good. A little stringy but I remember it was also tender. Tasted like beef.

In the old testament of the bible it says that we should only eat land animals that have cloven hooves - and not, by implication, those that have and sort of fingers, such as trotters or paws. This is the reason why Jews do not eat pigs.

However, Jesus came to fulfill the covenant that bound the jews till then, and this is often interpretted to mean that Christians are not bound by the laws of the old testament, so...go ahead. Dig in.

Dog meat is fairly popular in Korea where Christianity is the biggest religion (if one combines Protetstantism and Catholocism)

Christianity argues, I believe, a profound difference between humans and other animals over whom humans are said to have dominion.

Some however read vegetarianism into the bible.

Going a bit far?

Finally though, Christ was all for obeying your own conscience and if this is a serious question then it is clearly troubling you. If it troubles your consicence then it is probably best not to do it.

Is it a sin to eat Chicken or beef? No. In some countries where dog is eaten, they raise small dogs on farms just like they do in American with chickens and cows. The dogs are bred for eating. Me, personally, I love dogs to death and wouldnt eat dog meat, but for those who are interested, i hear it tastes just like chicken.

Relatively speaking, there is no difference between a dog and a cow. Our society has placed the dog further up in the hierarchy of animals.
