In some cases, the same problems that make people yearn for attention and want to become rock stars in the first place are the same ones that do them in. This is more of a problem for fame-seekers, as opposed to true creative types.

Sometimes people seek wealth and fame because they don't feel validated for being who they are, and need to achieve these things to convince themselves that they are worthy. When these people get it, eventually they realize that they are still the same person, or that people only love them because they are rich and famous. This leaves them hopeless and sends them into a downward spiral of depression, which could lead to addicition or suicide.

Hi Wombat,
First you have to consider what that type of like is like I worked for a big star ( who I won't name ) and it struck me as so odd that they have a Entourage following the ( no kidding we once had 12 people following him like kindergartners at Caesars Palace). Every time he asked for a stick of gum 5 people would come out of the woodwork with 5 flavors. I saw him change from a pretty nice guy to throwing tantrums to being totally dependent where everything ( like not getting the DVD he wanted or something was wrong with a meal) became a BIG thing so you can imagine what happens when a truly big thing happens ( Like someone dying or leaving you) It's a total meltdown

because fame and fortune do not make them happy, they have a basic need as do all of us. what is that need? hope! despite all we do we are still human, and like every other moving part we need maintenance, bit oil here, a bit tightening a nut there. but when your sick you see a doctor. when you need to talk you see a friend. when you need support you see family. when you hurt and a broken heart is aching inside you and is so deep no medicine, or friend can help or listens, you just want it to stop hurting, you drink, you do drugs, but you still wake up hurting, who do you call? a bullet, a rope, an overdose, a jump. one person can help or maybe two, one is your best friend who will never leave you alone and will stick by you no matter how you argue or disagree with them they are there at tough times and good times. don`t we all need a friend like that. we could end suicide tommorrow if we had a friend who looked after our best intrests and did`nt care what people think as long as you keep each other safe through the day and the night. go on ask your friend what they really really feel inside and open your ears and listen your ears are the solution not your verbal answers. the other person is the life mechanic. Jesus. i was a tearaway, a skinhead, football hooligan and he turned my life around when i was 19yrs old now 48 and he still loves me unconditionely. not religeon, but a relationship with our maker, a friend no one can replace. he is my hope when life is tough he is there for me to keep me from giving up. i hope this helps, if everybody in the world looks after their nieghbour we would not have any lonely people in the world. people are beautiful lets love them but don`t jump into bed with them thats lust. we need friends who care they are all around us just reach out and care.

The pressures of constant creativity are far worse that that of life in the limelight. All of the pleaseures of that life can sometimes never make up for feelings of emptyness caused by the culture of the industry and the rampant mental illness that so often accompanies that very creativity.

Yeah, I don't think that money solves anyones problems (unless of course they need food, clothing, or shelter). Why does anyone kill themselves? Chemical imbalances, neurosis, drub abuse, etc. Creative people seem to be particularly susceptible to these types of things, I don't think science has figured out why. Money and fame, however, isn't always the problem or solution, just look at Van Gogh. No one knew his name when he did it.

Drug addiction. It makes happiness impossible. Till you reach a point where death seams the only possible solution. And since they are rich and powerfull, they rarely get humbled enough to want recovery, which is the keystone of which sobriety is built upon.
