How can He stop the suffering for a certain person if that person doesn't come to Him? How can He do this if that person ignores him, or only comes to him in trouble? it's kind of like expecting your friend to help you, but then you ignore the friend or ask questions without allowing patience to answer you or help you. In some people the suffering is less difficult when they turn to God and get to know him. They find peace.
We create a lot of the evil and suffering by ourselves. Cancer from mutations from environmental stuff, global warming, hate, etc. We can't blame God for not stopping suffering when we probably spread a bit of pain to others already.

In the first place we are not living in a magical world, let's say for instance somebody fire a gun at you and God cause the gun to fly out of the persons hands and another trow a bomb directed at you and the bomb was caused by God to fly elsewhere, just imagine this kind of daily occurrences,it's possible God can do that, but just imagine these kind of things around us.We should not forget we have a free will and although God is all knowing He has given us the choice between life and death. If you believe in God then you should also believe in His rival'satan and don't forget everything is parallel if there is light there is definitely darkness and vice verse. One thing for sure is that Satan is definitely behind all that to discredit God's love and favour and also human activities does not help much since we excersice our will in accordance with Satan's will.We can not blame God!

Dear Sir/Madam,
In Spiritual terms, suffering is a path to righteousness. You cannot know how a wound pains not unless you've got one. You cannot understand the pangs of hunger when you've never stayed for 3 days without food. I'm writing this e-mail from Rwanda. Our life is the greatest school of understanding. Of course it always goes beyond our imagination why we should suffer. As a christian, a catholic, I believe this life has a greater purpose than mere living or just what our eyes can see.
Let me give you an analogy for you to try to understand. It's source is biblical..... "Gold has to be burned to obtain it's purity". Through suffering we obtain the wisdom (although at times we tend to forget thereafter), we come closer to God and begin to understand his love. We become humble, and show our perseverance and my friend once it's over we become the unbeatable victors. I hope you understand the joy that goes with it.
Homework for U, read the passion of Jesus Christ in the Bible (despite your religion). I'm sure you'll get some light over the issue. God bless you.
Conclusion:
God created you for a purpose and so He is all knowing and all powerful. You should stop thinking in terms of time and space within the span of your lifetime and within your understanding.
Can a pot understand the mastery of its potter? There are limits and a time will come for us to understand even beyond what we thought we already knew. We are mortals and I believe you know there exists immortals... Life is beyond the physical world...
There's a lot I can say, but let me hope my little contribution has something for you.
Aime

People who accuse God of sitting back and doing nothing are missing a vital truth. In reality, God has already done everything you would want a loving God to do - and infinitely more!
The Son of God became a man and endured both suffering and a horrible death on man's behalf. Adam's sin left mankind in a terrible predicament. Even though our bodies die, we are made in the image of God, and thus we have souls that are immortal. Our conscious being is going to live forever. Unless God intervened, Adam's sin meant that we would spend an eternity of suffering and separation from Him.

"We suffer because there is a gap between our imaginations and reality. By imaginations, I mean by our expectations of how things should be rather than how they actually are. The greater the gap the more we suffer." Paramhamsa Sri Nithyananda Swamiji
What Swamiji is saying here is not just that suffering is a state of mind, but that we in fact create our suffering. The Buddha even said that "all life is suffering because it is attached to that which always changes, but if we let go of those attachments we let go of suffering."
However, if by "suffering" you meant "pain". Swamiji says "Pain is your body's way of telling you that there is something wrong. Most of us wish to get rid of pain and will take a pill, but after taking the pill to relieve the pain we fail to act to find out what the source of the pain was and thus the problem our bodies were alerting to only gets worse. If we would just find the source of the pain, the problem, and deal with it we could free ourselves from even greater pain later on."

The whole world/galaxy/universe is balanced. Without balance, things will inevitably go out of proportion. As god is all knowing and all powerful, I believe suffering is part of this balance. Without suffering, people will not understand exactly the meaning of happiness and joy. Without suffering, people have nothing to compare the little bits of love and ectasy one gets even from a smile you see. Without suffering, one will never know how one should never take anything for granted.

I was asking my mom that this morning... "If God took out Sodom and Gomorrah with a hail of firestones and flooded the entire earth after having Noah build an ark, then why on earth doesn't he wipe out civilization NOW... it's so much worse now than either of those isolated incidents."
And on the free-will issue... if we have free will, there is no way God knows how we will end up, but I'm told time and time again that he does have that knowledge... so I say, then we don't have free-will. Period. YOu can't have it both ways.
No matter what say or ask, bible-folk always have an answer... and when they don't, they pull out the "have faith" thing. Ugh.

God is everything. Also all loving and all just. Actually God doesn't do anything. God just is. And due to this 'being' everything appears to happen. If this has confused you instead of giving the answer that is understandable. To you, if you are genuinely interested, finding the answer can take a long time. All the best. Let me know if i can help.

Because everything has a purpose. Even suffering. I cannot begin to answer for God. And, this is just one of the many questions that we will not have the answer to, until we can sit at his feet and ask him directly.
It is sad for those who suffer, and for those who watch others suffer, too. Heartbreaking. We have to have faith that He knows what He is doing. It is the only way to deal with these things.
