one of my favorite scriptures of all time. Its David's repentance from his affair with Bathseba (sp) and killing her husband and all that bad stuff. He truly was convicted by God and truly repented. It was more than just sacrificing to get freed from the law it was a cry to God to give him a clean heart and to save him. He understood that there was more to it than just making a sacrificial act. He truly gets it and even though he did do all those things God took him back and establishes him as one of the best rulers that Isreal has ever had. Its an amazing psalm of God's redeeming love for us.

It is actually Davids cry of repentance to God. It is a godly sorrow of a man of God who has changed his heart and wishes to reestablish his walk with God. It is a beautiful psalm and a great lesson to us all of David's heart for God and God's forgiveness. David was a man after God's own heart.

It shows how heart felt one has got to be that has done such a thing as king David did and he was so thoughtless in his act until Nathan pointed it out to him and he felt himself that a person doing such a thing should die. He wants God to give him a clean heart and renew a right spirit within him.

Matt.22:42-45; Jesus said of David that he was in the spirit when he spoke of the LORD God that said to his Lord[ Jesus]; sit thou on my right hand until I make thine enemies thy footstool and Satan with his angels will be put in that position for a short time before the second coming of Christ.

David commited adultary, and he knows that that is a deadly sin, so he is begging God for forgiveness and asking to be cleansed and given a fresh start. I guess it teaches us that just because we sinned once doesn't mean we should give up and assume God has abandoned us, but to keep trying and make it up to our Lord.

Psalm 51 is the prayer King David offered after he had sex with Bathsheba, Uriah the Hittite's wife, and she became pregnant from this adulterous affair. FIRST, IT TEACHES THAT ONE SIN MAY FREQUENTLY LEAD TO ANOTHER: AS DAVID'S SIN OF LUST LED TO ADULTERY AND THAT LED TO MURDER and ALL SINS LEAD TO DEATH AND SEPARATION FROM GOD. In this psalm, King David, who ruled in Israel at that time, confessed his sin to God because he had caused his own soldier, Uriah to be sent into a heated battle and thereby, be killed in order to hide David's own evil deeds from everyone. Secondly, this psalm teaches that THERE MUST BE GENUINE CONFESSION AS WELL AS COMPLETE REPENTANCE FROM SIN if one expects complete forgiveness from God for wrongdoing. The sacrifice that had to be made for this sin, was ultimately, the death of their child at it's birth. That was God's punishment for King David's sin. IT ALSO TAUGHT THAT THERE MUST BE A SACRIFICE, IN HUMAN BLOOD, MADE IN ORDER FOR MAN'S SINS TO BE FORGIVEN. For the Christian, that sacrifice was the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the cross. For King David, at that time, "bullocks" were being offered on the altar of the temple. However, God chose their "love child" as the acceptable sacrifice at that time. Hence, three lessons in one psalm.
