I don't mean colors, I mean actual styles. And I'm not a poser (for those of you who call me so). Stick straight, an updo, what?!

the birds' nest
take a clump of hair and wind it until it curls back in on itself and bobbypin it to your head with a small tail sticking out, continue in clumps of varying sizes until all done, cover in hairspray (or start with wax or gel in your hair) and you're all done.
watched an ex-girlfriend do this, it can take a while if you've never done it before, however it still turns out the way it's meants to - if it's messy it doesn't matter, it's a birds' nest.

Go to Matrix.com and pick a favourite hairstyle...they have medium/shoulder length hairstyles, some may fit in your category of "gothic". It even gives you the steps to get that look.

Also try the following link which may give you ideas.

Shave your head then repeat after me, "I will not be a poser." Continue until you understand the point of the exercise.
