I think it has to be waiting game. The system should totally get rid of the drug and it takes a little time. You are on antihistamine & steroids and thats the best which can be done. Drink lots of water, whether you want it or not, it helps in eliminating the drug!!

It is a MISNOMER that the rash which results from taking amoxicillin must be an "allergy" to amoxicillin- it is not necessarily so. Rash is commonly seen in EBV infection, and the rash is only commoner (4/5), more intense and darker in persons who are prescribed and take amoxicillin. Some of these persons will go on to have true amoxicillin allergy, but the number is only likely to be about half.
Be sure your doctor is sure you dont have erythema multiforme- these are painful, target-like lesions often associated with sores in the mouth. This type of reaction, rare, but it can occur after mono and amoxicillin, needs careful attention of an experienced dermatologist.

What is an ampicillin or amoxicillin rash?
An ampicillin or amoxicillin rash is a skin rash that occurs when a child is taking one of these medicines. The rash usually appears on the 5th day after the child starts taking the medicine, but may appear earlier or as late as the 16th day.
Symptoms of the rash include:
pink or red spots
small, flat, nonitchy spots
always on the main body (trunk)
may spread to the face.
What is the cause?
5% to 10% of children taking ampicillin or amoxicillin get a skin rash. This is a harmless rash and does not mean that your child has an allergy to ampicillin, amoxicillin, or other penicillin drugs.
How long does it last?
The rash usually lasts 3 days, with a range of 1 to 6 days.
How is it treated?
No treatment is necessary. Keep your child on the ampicillin or amoxicillin until the medicine is gone. The rash will disappear just as quickly whether or not your child continues the medication. Your child can take ampicillin or amoxicillin in the future when necessary and probably won't get a rash the next time.
When should I call my child's health care provider?
Call during office hours if:
The rash changes to hives.
The rash becomes itchy.
The rash lasts more than 6 days.
You have other concerns or questions.

You had an allergic reaction (HIVES) - I was taking amoxicillin & I had this last year when I discovered I was pregnant - I also had severe swelling - my Dr. wouldn't give me the steriods cause I was preggie -but I was allowed to take the Benadryl & it took two weeks before it got rid of the rash (hives) -but the swelling went away fast - & my Dr told me to keep takinf it for an extra week to make sure the amoxicillin was completely out of my system -
It just takes a while -thats all -but since you are taking the steriods with it too -It may not take as long - Just wait it out - If it gets worse or you start having swelling go back to the ER - the swelling can be dangerous & your throat could close up if ya wait too long - so please take any swelling serious
Hope ya feel better soon

Important: YOU MUST KEEP WATCHING IF THIS DOESN'T GO AWAY GO BACK TO YOUR DOCTOR. Your doctor has given you prednisone as a steriod most likely and the benadryl, which can be taken every four hours. There is a allergic reaction that can come on from an allergic reaction to Antibiotics which is Steven/Johnson Syndrome. Very few people get this but is very serious. I have had this, it took over six months to get over. Did they give you a medpac or a step down of steriods like 2 tablets for three days then 1 tablet for six days and then a half tablet for three. I had to do this three times, but my whole family has bad allergies to anitbiotics, my daughter is allergic to all antibiotics. We homeschool and watch all the time because there is nothing she can take. When breaking her arm, they couldnt put pins in because of this reason. So she had surgery and was in traction for 12 weeks. She not only got the rashes like you did but blisters and swelling of tongue and throat. If you have been on this medicine for more than two days and don't notice any change you need to go to the doctors immediately.
