I don't know, but it sounds like s fair commandment to me! If everyone stole from each other, people would be fighting over stuff all the time. Thou shalt not steal is good!

Perhaps because He knew the true nature of some men and He could know what the future holds.
There are many kinds of stealing, by the way.
Taking from the poor to give to the rich, lying to get a job you aren't qualified for, lying to earn votes for political office, overcharging for a product you produce, underpaying the people who work for you, knowingly not returning money you find to it's rightful owner, etc.
The commandments were given to man because God did not want any one to doubt what was morally right and wrong.

Am I missing something? Are you trying to make a point with that question? I only ask because even those who don't believe in God generally agree that stealing is bad. I would not want someone to steal that which I had to work for which brings me to the words of the Master "do unto others as you would have them do unto you"

I can not believe you need this explained to you. Stealing is against the commandments of God,what part of it is not a good thing don't you understand? Do you want people stealing from you?

When you steal, it depends on the intention. Maybe someone steals because they are lazy to work for something. Maybe they steal to hurt someone, deprive someone of something. Eventually, it is likely that the thief is causing pain. In some bad cases, it is an expression of hate.

Whether you believe in God or not, stealing is evil. Join the Society of New Reasoning which only deals with good vs. evil and not religious doctrines.

short answer: it's wrong
long answer: it is a sinful characteristic that is often an onset of other sinful characteristics. a lot of times, God says not to do things not simply because it is bad for others in whatever negative way, but because it will cause the person commiting the act to become more sinfully minded.
God is trying to protect you from yourself! He knows what you're capable of doing, and trying to tell you which most specifically to avoid so you can build a strong moral foundation!

Because it's bad for your psyche if you steal. ( i e you lose some respect for yourself if you take away from someone else, and the more you do it the more respect you lose. When you stop doing it you'll find that you start to feel better about yourself!) God tells us what is good for us.

Question is, does it have to be God's commandment?
Do we have to be so incapable of handling our own affairs that God has to step in? And why would he do it at all. He should have been perfectly capable of stopping us, and he should have known that there are those who wouldn't listen. And it makes no sense to me why punishment should come after our lives are over. When training your dog, don't you give rewards and punishment after the act(not after death)?
Go ask God. I can't speak on his behalf. I can't figure him out either.
