its a vacation after your wedding where you and your spouse get to spend time together alone. its not necessairly the first time you have sex though. not evenyone waits until marriage. it might be the first time you get to have sex as a married couple though.

To the Catholic Church the honeymoon is where you are supposed to have sex and consummate your marriage. In fact, the Catholic Church doesn't think your marriage exists until you go on your honeymoon.
